Hotel Grande Bretagne

Description

Location. The Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens, Greece, is a 19th century palace facing the main Syntagma Square and adjacent to the Parliament Building. The Acropolis, the New Acropolis Museum and the labyrinthine Plaka (old town) are within 1 kilometre. Syntagma metro station is 300 metres from the hotel.
Hotel Features. Set in a palace built in 1862, locals call the Hotel Grande Bretagne the 'Royal Box'. Guests enter through rotating doors into a lobby with Corinthian columns, Persian carpets and neobaroque style furniture.

The skylit Winter Garden is the setting for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner with piano music. The high ceilinged GB Corner restaurant's signature dish is Dover sole meunier. From April to October, the GB Roof Garden serves cocktails and Greek specialities from the grill.

The GB spa features a mosaic lined indoor pool, reflexology foot baths, and treatments like hot stone massage and Oshadhi herbal wraps. The tree fringed rooftop outdoor pool affords Acropolis views.

Guestrooms. Decorated with antique furniture, subtle cream hues, and red and gold fabrics, the Hotel Grande Bretagne's 327 guestrooms have a marble bathroom, minibar, high speed Internet access and views of the inner courtyard or Syntagma Square.

Expert Tip. A five minute taxi ride from the hotel, a funicular runs up to the 300 metre Lycabettus hill offering panoramic views over Athens. The open air theatre at the summit stages concerts in summer.
