Description
A natural oasis amidst the urban landscape of Singapore, Sembawang Country Club's 18-hole golf course is a lovely picture of green hills and streams. The golf course is a par 72 course measuring 6090 metres. The course index rating is 127 for the Blue tee, 120 for the White tee and 127 for the Red tee.
The "Commando Course" as it is affectionately named by golfers, is arguably one of Singapore's most challenging golf courses. It is not possible to find any flat turf (inclusive of greens, tees and fairways). The "Commando Course" invokes a certain resilience required to tackle the natural terrains of the course.
Presently planted on the large terrace tee boxes are a hybrid of the Zoysia Matrella while the greens are covered with Bermuda Tifdwarf. The rest of the course is covered with the commonly known native "cowgrass". The ornamental trees found on the course include Tembusu, Kapor, Eugenia, Raintree, a variety of palms and many others. Most of the ponds which are used to store surface run-offs, are tapped for irrigation and golfers can find Tilapia, Japanese Kois, local Grassy, Tioman and fresh water Grouper in these waters.
