Description
Alexandria is the 2nd largest city in Egypt, but the largest city lying directly on the Mediterranean coast. In ancient times, it was the second most powerful city after Rome. The name Alexandria is derived from its founder, Alexander the Great, who founded the little ancient town around 331 BC. Since then it has grown to be an important seaport, industrial center and tourism destination. Many tourists visit Alexandria in the summer because of its beautiful public and private beaches, ancient history, and interesting museums.
